Allied Bakeries has renewed its UK inter-bakery trunking contract with TNT Logistics for a further three years.TNT Logistics began working with Allied Bakeries in 1994, operating vehicles out of the Walthamstow (North London) bakery and won more of the inter-bakery business over the next six years until it covered the whole of the UK and are now responsible for managing a £16m operation.
Allied Bakeries makes more than 640 product lines in the UK that includes branded labels such as Kingsmill, Allinson, Burgen and Sunblest. Currently, more than 850,000 baskets of bakery products are transported ‘inter-bakery' each week on a fleet that includes 50 double deck trailers, with peaks just before Easter and Christmas.
The 96 tractor units on the operation are all fitted with GPS and all the delivery locations are geo-fenced. As well as giving visibility of when a vehicle is about to arrive at a depot, the system is also used to produce detailed management reports.
Andy Fitt, Managing Director, Operations, TNT Logistics UK, says: "We are very pleased that our contract with Allied Bakeries has been renewed. We have worked together to develop the IT solutions that best suit their needs and will continue to work with them on further enhancements."
David Wale, Allied Bakeries Director, Supply Chain, says: "Our decision to renew the interbakery contract with TNT reflects the close working relationship we have developed over the last 12 years. We look forward to further strengthening the relationship over the next three years as we look for further synergies between the two companies".
