CEVA to manage Honda's European inbound supply chainAshby de la Zouch, UK, 6 July 2009 - CEVA Logistics, a leading global supply chain management company, has been appointed by Honda of the UK Manufacturing (HUM) to manage its European inbound logistics operation. The three year contract coincides with HUM's production re-start which began this month.
On behalf of HUM, CEVA Ground Europe, based in Antwerp, will manage supplier collections from over 40 European locations transporting parts to its production plant in Swindon, UK. The solution involves managing the availability and movement of parts in the correct format to meet HUM's build program; management of third-party hauliers and suppliers, and deliveries to Swindon. It incorporates carrier management, transportation planning and execution as well as freight audit service modules. The solution is underpinned by MATRIX, the CEVA developed IT system, providing event management to shipment level from point of collection to the point of delivery. MATRIX will enable HUM to have greater supply chain visibility. CEVA will also control the returns of empty packaging through the same process.
Wouter Coppens, Managing Director, CEVA Ground Europe, explains: "We have worked in partnership with HUM and our colleagues from CEVA UK for 18 months to develop an ex-works collection service which meets the changing needs of HUM's business. We are confident that CEVA Ground has the expertise, scope, and IT infrastructure to provide HUM with a responsive supply chain solution".
"CEVA Ground will continue to focus on driving value in the area of transportation management for HUM. The contract will be subjected to CEVA's Zero Defect Start-up Program and operated by fully trained operatives, familiar with CEVA Ground. In addition to greater parts visibility, HUM will receive consolidated invoices for all activities, delivering major efficiencies in time spent processing invoices."
Dave Taylor from HUM commented: "Our key objective was to create a more efficient supply chain. In achieving this, we have reduced costs, increased flexibility and reduced overall emissions. CEVA was awarded the contract due to its experience, resources, open minded approach and of course cost competitiveness".
