Managing your packaging assets with TNT Paktrak

17 March 2003 - 09:40 CET

TNT Container Logistics has launched a new internet-based management system that brings easy-to use, real-time control and tracking to container and pallet operations.

TNT Paktrak has been developed by the world leader in the hire and management of bulk containers, pallets and packaging equipment, to provide simple and efficient control of the packaging fleet as it moves through the supply chain.

The centrally-controlled system enables TNT operators to control the flow of customers' packaging fleets through functions such as stock allocation parameters, cycle time management and container type allocation. This means that any lost packaging, misuse, extended use or damage can be quickly identified, enabling the correct action to be taken within hours if any problems arise.

The tracking element of TNT Paktrak provides a comprehensive audit trail of packaging movements and stocks, enabling TNT to accurately identify individual packaging user accountability, thereby being able to apportion any costs associated with damage, loss or misuse to the user responsible.

John Wright, European director for sales and marketing, said: "TNT Paktrak is an all-encompassing system to control and minimise loss, damage, unauthorised use and over packaging fleet costs to any re-usable or returnable packaging fleet user. It is a huge leap forward for any logistics professional looking to maximise the efficiency of their packaging fleet operations.

"Everything about the system has been developed in conjunction with our customers, from the instinctive operating system to the principal of easy online access."

The system is easy to use and only requires internet access and a Windows operating system. Tracking reports can be tailor-made to individual customer requirements and can be simply printed from the website.

Other web-based facilities include on-line container and pallet ordering, direct email access to the TNT Help Desk, and trend analysis. A specific unit locator function is also available for tracking individually numbered containers or pallets.

The level of data input for the customer is minimal and can be easily carried out using hand-held data capture units with bar code and RFID reading facilities. Alternatively, data can be entered direct onto the web site or via formatted email to TNT operators. Each method has been designed to be as quick as possible for the user, without compromising the control of the packaging fleet.

Access to the system and packaging fleet information is controlled by security level clearance codes. For example the customer can view all supplier-packaging stocks on the system which are relevant to their own pool, whereas the individual supplier is only allowed to access to their own stock and movement figures.

John Wright added: "With TNT Container Logistics' extensive pooling services and capabilities, TNT Paktrak provides a clear market-leading logistics package which can be linked to or can work within other logistics and production planning systems to ensure the packaging fleet runs smoothly.

"This means that a customer's packaging will be available where and when the customer wants to use it."
