08 April 2005 - 11:28 CET

Maurice Phillips, importer of coordinated, high quality home textile and soft furnishing products, has signed a three year warehousing and distribution contract with TNT Network Logistics. The contract commenced in March 2005.

The UK company's product range, including towels, curtains, bedding and kitchen accessories, will be stored at the TNT Network Logistics multi-user facility at Corby and distributed to UK customers through the nationwide shared user network.

"Products arrive at our warehouse in Corby in containers from manufacturing plants in Asia and the rest of Europe," explains David Bermingham, Managing Director, TNT Network Logistics. "We will provide storage, order picking, despatch and distribution as well as value added services such as pre-retailing and re-working as necessary."

Once picked, product will be distributed via TNT Network Logistics National Network to a range of retail outlets and stores which include Aldi, Argos, Costco, Homebase, Matalan, Sainsbury's, Shop Direct, TJ Hughes, Tesco, Wilkinsons and Woolworths.

TNT Network Logistics will give Maurice Phillips the flexibility to handle about 1.2 million cases annually, with products occupying 5,500-7,000 pallet locations at any one time. Each aspect of the service will be carried out to suit the individual needs of Maurice Phillips' customers, dependent on packaging and lead-time requirements.

Chris Meehan, Operations and Logistics Director, Maurice Phillips, says: "We have outsourced logistics activities to TNT Network Logistics so that we can focus on our core competencies which are product development, sourcing, buying, planning and designing. By outsourcing to TNT we are able to gain greater flexibility and, by working in close partnership, we look forward to providing a high quality distribution service to our clients."

TNT Network Logistics is the multi-user business of TNT Logistics UK and operates a fleet of 800 vehicles through its network of 19 multi-user depots throughout the UK for more than 80 clients. Its clients range from newspaper publishers and magazine wholesalers to food manufacturers and high street retailers.
