TNT Logistics Driver of the Year wins VW Golf

03 October 2002 - 14:52 CET

Gerry Boyle, a driver of the Volkswagen contract, has been named the TNT Logistics Driver of the Year 2002. His prize is a brand new Volkswagen Golf, taxed and insured for a year.

Andy Fitt, Managing Director, Operations, TNT Logistics UK, says the company decided to offer such as amazing prize as part of its on-going efforts to promote safety.

"We are totally committed to safety in operations and we feel that such an outstanding prize for the Driver of the Year competition is a clear signal to all our drivers how important it is."

To be eligible to enter, drivers must be accident free in the last twelve months and tachograph and attendance records are also taken into account. The competition involves a road drive, a written exam and a manoeuvring test, supervised by IAM (Institute of Advanced Motoring) officials.

"The main reason for the competition is to promote safe driving," says Mr Fitt. "We are delighted that the standard of driving displayed has continued to improve over the ten years we have held the competition."

Almost 50 drivers competed in the day-long event, held at the MIRA testing ground in the Midlands.

Mr Boyle was overwhelmed to be named the winner - and to take home the amazing prize of the Volkswagen Golf. "It is unbelievable, awesome," he said. "It was the first time I had entered and my main hope had been not to embarrass myself!"
