TNT Logistics wins major contract with TRW

TNT Logistics, the global market leader in Automotive Logistics, has won a major new contract with TRW, one of the world's leading automotive component suppliers. The contract, which started at the beginning of January 2001, is for supply chain management for factories in Italy and Poland.
The bulk of the work will be focused on the TRW chassis plant in Livorno Italy. This plant receives materials and parts from suppliers in Poland, Italy and in other European countries, assembles the steering components and then ships the finished product to automotive manufacturers on a just in time (JIT) basis. TNT Logistics will assume responsibility for the entire supply chain - receiving and handling materials, warehouse management, picking and packing, stock transfers and outbound shipment of the final product to customers.
The contract continues a growing trend in TNT's automotive business, whereby automotive manufacturers are linking suppliers like TRW into their outsourcing plans on a world-wide basis. By integrating logistics further up the supply chain, manufacturers can increase synergies that improve flow efficiency and maximise savings.
